My Beacon
Producing blog content for an innovative Canadian start-up aimed at helping immigrants.
Beacon is a Canadian platform created by immigrants for immigrants, designed to simplify the process of starting a new life in Canada. It offers practical financial tools such as opening a Canadian bank account before arrival, managing money through the Beacon app, sending international transfers, and paying bills abroad.
The platform focuses on making settlement smoother by combining financial services with step-by-step onboarding. Its goal is to give newcomers confidence and independence from day one, helping them handle the financial side of relocation without unnecessary stress.
Case
This project was a collaboration between Make That Change and Beacon, aimed at producing a series of short, informative videos on immigration to Canada.
These videos were later intended to be used on Beacon’s website as supporting content for articles or as standalone resources for visitors seeking practical immigration advice.
Make That Change handled the initial steps and delegated the post-production side of the project to Lumuv. For this case study, we selected three sample videos from the series that best represent the collaborative process and the final result.
Our approach
Each video was around five minutes long, but packed with information. The main goal was to make the content easier to follow and more engaging by presenting it visually, without losing clarity or structure.
To highlight the key points, we used on-screen titles that matched the narration. When the topic involved comparisons between provinces, we added simple tables and incorporated provincial flags to make the data easier to digest.
For statistics and numerical details, we used clean, minimal charts. Additional animations were applied to illustrate concepts and break up the flow of spoken information, helping viewers better process and remember what they heard.
Additionally, we incorporated carefully selected stock footage as B-roll to provide extra context and support the narrative of the speaker. This also helped to make the video more engaging and entertaining to watch.
Results
The videos presented below represent the techniques we described in our approach in practice. While they cover different topics and issues the immigrants usually face when moving into a new country.
